Keeping Them Occupied

Keeping Them Occupied

Chinchillas are naturally curious and active creatures who often feel the need to chew on things. This is also a way for them to keep their teeth healthy. According to references such as chinchilla care guides and sites on the Net specially made for chinchillas, chinchillas’ teeth grow constantly over their whole lifespan. Their teeth are kept in good condition by chewing and gnawing on things. This is natural and over-all healthy for these small creatures so do not worry.

Chinchilla favor branches for their chew toys. Branches that you may use for this activity are: willow, apple, poplar, and aspen. Other than just branches, you may also provide toys for your pet. Keep to untreated wood please as it is better for your pet. You may acquire these toys from a local pet shop in the rodents section or sometimes in the parrot section.

Chinchilla are also due to their natural habitat, agile and very adept to climbing. To keep them happy and occupied, chinchilla care guides usually advice ladders, blocks and platforms for climbing inside their cages. If you do not wish to have these in your pets’ cage, a good alternative for these are sturdy branches that your pet may climb and chew on.

Good hiding spots are much appreciated by these small pets. Commercial rodents’ houses that have PVC pipes, clay pipes, clay pots can be used for this. With the pipes in place, it can also double as your pets’ playground and hiding place, especially the PVC pipes.
